Let’s go over the basics:

Who:
- NYC children born in 2021 are guaranteed a spot for Fall 2026

When:
- Apply Dec 9 2025 - Jan 23, 2026
- Find out Tue, Mar 31, 2026

How it works:
- List at least 12 choices
- Zoned, non-zoned, dual language, and G&T programs are all on one form.
- Some schools have special programs—like G&T or Dual Language—that you

list separately. Others? Just one school, plain and simple
- Offers depend on your list order, seats, priorities, and a random
number.

Who gets in first? (Check each school/program on MySchools)
- You live nearby (zoned school)
- You have a sibling there
- Your child is in Pre-K at that school
- You live in the school district

Note: NYC has 32 school districts. Districts 1, 7, and 23 have no zoned schools, so families in those districts get priority for most programs.

Gifted & Talented (G&T) Programs:
- Qualification is checked after you apply.
- NYC pre-K teachers decide who qualifies; private school kids are interviewed by NYC Schools.
- Spots are competitive—being selected doesn’t guarantee admission.
