District 29
District 29 covers neighborhoods in the northeastern portion of Queens, bordering Nassau County. The student population is broadly diverse, with a majority identifying as Black and significant Hispanic and Asian representation. Queens is well known for its Caribbean, South Asian, and Central American populations; many neighborhoods in eastern Queens host Jamaican, Trinidadian, Bangladeshi, Guyanese, and Salvadoran residents.
Neighborhoods include Bellerose, Cambria Heights, Laurelton, Queens Village, Rosedale, Springfield Gardens and St. Albans. Most students attend their zoned elementary and middle schools.
PS 95 Eastwood in Jamaica is a big, zoned, arts-rich school that welcomes students from all over the world. Children who are new to speaking English learn alongside native speakers in team-taught classes, and there are several options for students with special needs. A non-zoned option is PS 360.
There are several charter schools including Merrick Academy (K-5), Riverton Street (K-8), and Success Academy network schools.
Queens Gateway to Health Sciences is a selective admission school for students in grades 6 to 12. It gives priority in admissions for middle school grades to students in districts 28 and 29. Eagle Academy (6-12) is a rare all-boys school.
