District 27

Queens’ southernmost district spans from busy Woodhaven to the more remote Rockaway Peninsula, where most students attend their zoned schools due to limited nearby options and transportation.

PS 317 Waterside Children’s Studio School (Pre-K–8) blends strong academics with arts, dance, drama, and STEAM, and includes a Nest program that supports children on the autism spectrum. Gifted and talented, and dual-language programs are available at select schools. Peninsula Preparatory Charter (Pre-K–5) is another option.

Scholars’ Academy (6–12) is a selective school serving the entire district and reserving half its seats for Rockaway Peninsula students.

Culturally, the district is diverse. Family-owned restaurants, houses of worship, community centers, and neighborhood events often celebrate Jamaican, Haitian, Guyanese, Trinidadian, Dominican, and Bangladeshi traditions.
