District 22
District 22 is huge, stretching from the Victorian homes of Ditmas Park to the quiet seaside of Mill Basin on Jamaica Bay. It’s richly diverse—White, Black, Hispanic, and Asian families—with students speaking languages that include Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Haitian and Urdu. Schools reflect and serve this blend.
PS 222 (Pre-K - 5) in Marine Park has a wheelchair-accessible building, solid academics, and nice enrichment activities.
The Hebrew Language Academy Charter School (K‑8), opened in 2009, draws families district-wide with Modern Hebrew immersion, a secular yet culturally rich curriculum, and an inclusion model for English learners and special‑needs students.
JHS 234 Arthur Cunningham, offers hands-on STEAM learning that includes science, technology, engineering, math, and the arts.
