District 12

District 12 is smack dab in the center of the Bronx encompassing Crotona Park, the Bronx Zoo and the 250-acre New York Botanical Garden. There are mostly low-rise brick apartment buildings and public housing towers. Although the neighborhoods have lagged in economic growth and development compared to others in the borough, this district is also changing as new housing and stores crop up. School achievement lags behind the citywide average here but there are some bright spots.
