District 12

District 12 is in the heart of the Bronx and includes neighborhoods like Crotona Park East, Morrisania, Claremont, and parts of Soundview. Bronx Park is home to family favorites like the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden. Housing includes low-rise apartment buildings, public housing, and some newer developments.

District 12 schools face ongoing challenges and are among the lower-performing in the city. Some early education and support programs are helping, but progress is gradual.

P.S. 89 (3K-8) offers a supportive Spanish dual language program for its large Spanish-speaking population. Arturo A. Schomburg Satellite Academy  (10-12) offers students who have struggled at other schools a fresh start. Mott Hall V (6-8) pairs students with adult mentors to explore career paths and build skills. Bronx Latin (6-12) engages students in Socratic Seminars and in-depth projects each year.
